Beliefs That Age Us

Have you ever said or heard someone say... "I've been forgetful lately, the old age must be creeping up on me." "I've been experiencing a certain body pain now that I am getting older." "Now that I am older, I can't lose weight as easily when I was young." "I've been experiencing dry skin now that I am older." A lot of the times when someone experiences a health imbalance, she or he identifies with it. Meaning, the person  thinks or believes  that she or he is the health issue and not separate from it. That belief can make the person feel helpless that there is nothing to do about it but suffer. What if that was only partly true? Let's take a step back. If we can notice we are forgetful, feel body pain, or can't lose weight, there is a aspect of us that provides us the potential to create change. By being the witness of our lifestyles and food choices, it allows us to see that maybe how we are living and eating are the cul...

Sex, Sugar, Salt – Why we crave it

It’s natural response to want sex, sugar, or salt. The body wants to have sex to reproduce and create offspring. The body’s cells need sugar for energy and salts to control movement of water.   To understand the natural urge to want sex, sugar, and salt we need to dive deeper into the endocrine system and the organ that produces the hormone that create this response. The adrenal gland, located on top of each kidney, assists the body coping with stress. When the body experiences stress the adrenal glands secrete the hormone adrenaline. It’s adrenaline that makes the body want sex, sugar, salt, which can offer the body a temporary boost of pleasure followed by a crash. What comes up must come down, figuratively and literally!    If the body is already severely depleted, the crash is not going to be fun and it cause more harm than good within the body. When the body is well taken care of the pleasures of sex, sugar, and salt can fully be enjoyed in a restful and heartfelt wa...

5 Ways to Enhance Your Life

Sometimes the mind likes to create the belief that life is boring. When we get stuck in the mind, which is task oriented and remembers facts, yes, life can be boring. The mind likes to create a whole storyline of what life should be like...  For some people, it kind of goes like this: "I go to work from 9-5 from Monday-Friday, I do my work that I'm assigned during these days. On the weekend I have chores to do: clean, grocery shop, cook, children events, ect." Where is the fun? The relaxation? The laughter? Where is the YOU time?  I see that most of us get caught up in giving and doing everything for everyone except ourselves, and this cycle depletes us of having time and energy to explore and see the fun, beauty, and peace life has to offer! Enjoying life is really simple. It's just up to us to make the  choice  to create these experiences of fun, peace, and relaxation. Once we've made the decision, then we can truly apply and feel the benefits of these practices...

The Art of Eating: Ayurvedic Guidelines to Healthy Eating

The art of eating is an old art that has come back around in recent times due to the prevalence of Americans that suffer from digestive issues in this world today. In 2018, a study was conducted and surveyed over 71,000 Americans and found the 2 out of 3 individuals experienced GI symptoms. Another article stated that most Americans that do have digestive symptoms don’t seek help. Digestion can be a sensitive topic for most or even mystery for some. I’ve noticed that sometimes uncovering symptoms from the body can be fearful and overwhelming, which could be a reason why it’s easy to ignore minor symptoms in the beginning. It helps to know the language of the body so fear can be diminished and confidence can take over. This is where knowledge and wisdom of Ayurveda shines! Ayurveda is the guidebook to your life that addresses the five senses, your thoughts, emotions and spirit. It is here where you can remember the wisdom and knowledge of yourself and your life. Ayurveda teaches, that o...

The liver is an extremely important organ in the body. It's the only organ in the body that can regenerate itself. I see this is the body's way of showing us how vital this organ truly for our overall health. The liver's main function is to filter blood from the digestive tract before it passes the blood to circulate to the rest of the body. This is only one of the numerous jobs the livers performs. In Ayurveda, it is considered the seat of pitta dosha. Remember, pitta is made up of 90% fire and 10% water.
